More naturist news from in and around the UK as a move to formally designate a section of a popular beach for naturists is set to be discussed by council chiefs next week.
Hartlepool Borough Council was approached by the Three Rivers Outdoor Club earlier this summer asking for a naturist beach at the south end of Seaton Carew.

The established club, which has around 30 members, claim naturists are an "oft-misunderst minority group" and say there are no designated beaches in the North East.

They also claim it could give the local economy a boost and in a letter to the council, group members suggested designating the section of beach adjacent to Seaton Carew Golf Club, as an ideal spot for a 'clothing optional' area.

Naturist Rally

More naturist news from around the world - Naturist group plans Sunday rally to protest the naturist ban at Trail 6 beach Orange County, which was to begin after Labor Day. A naturist group is asking beach-goers to ditch their clothes and bring signs this weekend to San Onofre's Trail 6 to protest the state's crackdown on public nudity at the state beach.

The announcement comes a day after officials with the state Department of Parks and Recreation said they would begin citing nude sunbathers at the traditionally clothing-optional beach. That nudist group contends the state would violate California law by issuing citations. They say a Superior Court ruling that sides with the naturists will stand until the state's Supreme Court decides to hear an appeal.

State park rangers will attempt to seek voluntary compliance before handing out citations at the beach, which has a more than 20-year tradition of nudity. The rally is scheduled to take place from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday at the sound end of Trail 6 beach.

Teesside Naturists

As reported in the local UK press recently A naturist club’s secretary believes nudist sites on two Teesside beaches would boost tourism by attracting the “buff pound” and give official status to sites already used for naked bathing. Three Rivers Outdoor club has made two separate applications to Redcar and Cleveland and Hartlepool Councils for two stretches of beach to be set aside for those who prefer their birthday suits to swimsuits.

John Thompson, secretary of Three Rivers Outdoor Club (TROC) for naturists believes nudist colonies in Redcar and Seaton Carew could help boost visitor numbers. He also believes nudist colony status would protect genuine naturists and members of the public from voyeurs and exhibitionists. John said: “We are looking for as many naturist beaches as we can get.

“There are 46 in the UK, mostly concentrated in the South and West coast and there is nothing for the population further up. It would be good for trade in Seaton Carew, Hartlepool and Redcar. It would attract the buff pound.” John believes the proposed nudist areas of North Gare, where the jetty goes out to meet the mouth of the Tees, and the beach adjacent to Seaton Carew Golf Club are secluded from the general public.

Spanish Naturists Kick Off

As reported widely in the Spanish press this week - a naturist group is poised to take legal action against El Ejido council after it banned baring all on its beaches. Naturist associaiton, La Asociación de Naturistas-Nudistas de Andalucía (ANNA) believes that the position taken by El Ejido council is “illegal” and “anti-constitutional” and is currently taking legal advice.

The ban was introduced last December as part of widespread council reforms despite the best efforts of group members. ANNA spokesman, Rafael Ortiz, revealed he wrote to town mayor, Juan Enciso, last summer while the bill was being drawn up, warning him of its illegality and of their intention to challenge it.

Ortiz cited a ruling from the High Court of Andalucia (TSJA) which proved “this current bill only serves to terrorise normal citizens because it has no legal foundation”.

Mayor Enciso has denied ANNA’s claims. He explained: “Nobody challenged this decision while the bill was being drawn up.” He said that nudism was not allowed in any El Ejido beaches and that no official requests had been made to allow the creation of one.

New Naturist Beach To Be Found In Suffolk

More local naturist news from around the UK. With only just a few wees left before one of Britain's oldest nudist beaches is closed, the search is on to find a suitable replacement spot up on the north Suffolk coast. The existing naturist beach at Corton, near Lowestoft, will become a general use area at the end of this summer season because coastal erosion has significantly reduced the amount of sand available for sunbathers.

Now Waveney District Council is speaking to local communities to try and find an alternative site for the naturists along the district's coastline, which stretches from Corton in the north, past Lowestoft to Southwold. In December last year, the council carried out a public consultation before deciding to go ahead with the plans to get rid of the naturist site, and said that they would explore other potential locations which are not as badly affected by erosion.

The new nudist beach would also have to have adequate parking and transport provision, good access to the beach, not be too overlooked and have support from the local community.

At least they have made a commitment to TRY and establish another area for the naturists.

Welsh Naturists Get The Boot

As reported in the UK National press this week, naturists have been warned that they are not welcome on a seven-mile long beach which is popular with families. Police and rangers will patrol during summer in uniforms and plain clothes at Cefn Sidan in Carmarthenshire, and CCTV will also be used. "No Nudism" signs have been defaced, and officials say the area is attracting both those with sexual motives and genuine naturists.

British Naturism said the authorities should work with them. Carmarthenshire council, which manages the beach and the nearby Pembrey Country Park, said naturists had been visiting Cefn Sidan since the 1960s, but nudism was not and never had been permitted. An area of Morfa Dyffryn, near Barmouth in Gwynedd, is the only official nude sunbathing area in Wales.

Key West Might Get A Naturist Beach

News just in for all you international naturists. Key West -- The come-as-you-are island city of Key West features a nude rooftop bar, guest houses with clothing-optional pools and the 10-day, world-famous debauchery known as Fantasy Fest, where body paint passes as clothing. On the island's public beaches, though, going au naturel has been illegal since 1983.

That might change soon. A group of naturists is campaigning to amend the city's nudity ordinance to allow a section of city-owned beach to go nude. City Commissioner Bill Verge plans to propose at this week's city commission meeting an Oct. 6 referendum. Advocates say the change could bring more tourists to the cash-strapped city.

Monroe County Commissioner Sylvia Murphy liked the idea when it surfaced in April. ''No one visiting us [from other countries] understands why we are such prudes,'' she said.

One Last Summer For Naturists

As reported in the California press, naturist beachgoers will have one last summer to sunbathe in the buff on a strip of San Onofre State Beach. State parks officials say they will give nude sunbathers verbal warnings that clothing isn't optional on the 1,000-foot stretch of beach, officials say nudists will be cited after that and arrested if necessary. This ends a long battle to keep the beach 'clothing optional'.

California officials decided to crack down on the nudity at the 1,000 foot stretch of beach last year. Parks officials said they were rescinding their longtime policy because of an increasing number of complaints from the public of lewd behavior. Nudists have frequented the beach at the south end of the state beach near Camp Pendleton for more than thirty years.

Cover Up At Cannes

As reported in the International press this today the French resort, home to the world's most famous film festival, has issued a decree banning naturism on the Mediterranean seafront after wealthy yacht owners complained that acres of bare tanned flesh were lowering the tone. Municipal spokesman Iris Perben said that the council had reissued an order reminding sun-worshippers that nudity is banned on all Cannes beaches, except those on the island of Sainte Marguerite.

Cannes Yacht Club commodore Jean-Claude Montesinos told the local newspaper, Nice-Matin, saying there are sailing schools in the area. "When the kids go out on the club house terrace to judge the wind the first thing they see is a row of bare bottoms.' 'Ms Perben said town police will be empowered to fine nude sunbathers.

Naturism On The Increase?

There were a number of articles in the UK press this week quoting the BNF as reporting that calls and enquiries to naturists clubs had gone through the roof. With the scorching sun and the weather becoming humid there has been a stiff increase in the number of people frequenting this nudist beaches. According to the British Naturism Foundation, the number of people contacting its sun clubs and nudist beaches rose from 2,000-a-week to 12,000 as temperatures rose to more than 86F (30C).

The craze of getting once body tan seemed to be one of the main reasons for the rise among the people. The Telegraph quoted spokesman Andrew Welch, as saying, "It's been staggering, much more than the usual levels of interest we get". He adds: "And the rise is mainly through women wanting that perfect tan, particularly the younger generation."

Studland In The News Again.

Studland Beach was in the press again today as 3 new ‘Community Wardens,’ highly visible in bright yellow t-shirts, have begun patrolling Studland’s beaches to make all visitors and local residents feel even safer. The National Trust managed seashore has welcomed naturists for more than 90 years. The 800 metre long section known is the National Trust’s only nudist beach and is popular with people of all ages and with families. However, from time to time reports are made of sexual misconduct or activity that threatens to bring naturism into disrepute.

Safer Neighbourhood Sergeant Des Connor was reported as saying : “Between summer 2005 and summer 2008, nine sexual offences were recorded in the Studland area and we want to keep this number as low as possible.”

To combat this Dorset Police has teamed up with The National Trust and Studland Beach Users’ Action Group (SBUAG) to provide wardens, who have been given training by Dorset Police and The National Trust. They will patrol Studland peninsula throughout July and August and offer help and advice to beach users.

Sergeant Connor added: “The Studland peninsula is a very safe place where families can enjoy the summer. This new multi-agency approach will make the beach area even safer.”

Naturists Lose Beach Battle In California

As reported in the US press today, a group of nudists who want to keep San Onofre State Beach's Trail 6 a clothing-optional beach have lost their latest legal battle, after a panel of justices at the 4th District Court of Appeal ruled that a policy that addresses nudity at state beaches is invalid. The ruling favored state officials who last spring decided to crack down on a more than 20-year tradition of nude sunbathing at the 1,000-foot stretch of beach.

Park officials said the agency followed the rules and did not violate any policy because they said they never set aside a designated area for nudity. They contend public nudity is not allowed on state beaches. Instead, state officials said, they chose to look the other way and allowed public nudity at the beach until they started getting complaints. Officials said the naturists have to adhere to a code in state law called nudity prohibited, which states that "no person shall appear nude while in any unit except in authorized areas set aside for that purpose by the department."

Seahorse Stir At Studland Bay

Hello all you UK Naturists - hope you are enjoying the sunshine today I know I am. Earlier in the month I blogged a story about the seahorses found at Studland Bay. Well now a row has broken out over a protection zone to save the seahorses off my favourite bit of Dorset coastline. A voluntary anchor-free zone is being introduced at Studland Bay which is now home to the country’s largest breeding seahorse colony. It is planned that wardens will patrol and photograph the area to create a map of boating activity during the busy summer season.

Experts will then compare data from the seagrass in the anchor-free zone and a control zone where boats can anchor to judge the impact on the seahorse territory. But locals fear it will turn in to a ‘naming and shaming’ exercise with boats that are anchored in the bay named on the internet. They also believe the seagrass and seahorses are thriving as they and should be left alone - just a nature intended.

On a more practical note local people also argue that the village will suffer economically if the hundreds of boats that come each weekend in summer decide to stay away.

We will just have to wait and see what happens with this one !!!!

Studland Not Just For Naturists

Move over all you naturists - you have got new neighbours at Studland Bay. The Seahorse Tust has been monitoring a number of sites around the UK, one of which is in Studland Bay in Dorset which has turned out to be a site of International importance. Our coordinators for Dorset, Steve Trewhella and Julie Hatcher, discovered Seahorses on the site in 2005 and since then we have made a number of amazing discoveries about British Seahorses and particularly this site.

Despite the longevity of the survey and the amount of knowledge we have already gained we need to know more about these very elusive animals and their secretive lives and Studland Bay gives us a unique opportunity to do this.

The British Seahorse Survey was set up in 1994 and is the longest running continuous survey of its kind in the world; it's this longevity that has allowed us to gain a greater insight into the world of two of the British Isles most enigmatic fish species.

Hampshire Naturists Get It Hot

Naturists in the Hampshire area hit the jackpot again this weekend as the county basked in scorching temperatures again yesterday. Weather forecasters predicted that the mercury would climb to 27C (81F), the hottest day of the year so far. People grabbed their buckets and spades and flocked to the beach yesterday to make the most of “wall-to-wall” sunshine. It really was very very hot and so much sunshine.

Travel experts said there was congestion on roads leading to most coastal areas.

Traffic Masters head of travel Ross Gould said the A31 westbound through the New Forest towards Bournemouth and Poole had the most notable problems. He said: “The beachside resorts are hotspots for the holiday traffic. In the UK if there is any hint of sunshine people head straight to the coast.”

Matt Dobson, forecaster at MeteoGroup, said yesterday's highest temperatures fell short of the 26.5C (80F) reached on Friday, which was the hottest day of the year so far.

He added that the south enjoyed temperatures of up 21C (70F) by the sea.

OK You Naturists Its Official

OK all you naturists out there its official. Officials issue heatwave advice. People need to make sure they have a fair weather friend they can call on for aid in the event of a heatwave this summer, officials have advised. The Department of Health's Heatwave Plan urges everyone to be aware of the health risks faced by elderly friends and relatives during a hot spell.

The Met Office says it is too early to tell whether it will be a very hot summer this year, but the signs so far are that it will be warmer than our last two summers and conditions could well trigger its heatwave warning system.

In London, this would mean daytime temperatures had exceeded 32C and night-time temperatures were over 18C degrees. In the North West, it would be 30C and 15C, respectively.

Wayne Elliott, Head of Health Forecasting at the Met Office, said: "Summer is nearly with us and it's a good time to prepare for the high temperatures that we can experience in this country.

Too Nice For It To Be The Weekend

Hello there all you Hampshire and Dorset naturists. OK. todays the day. It is sunny and not a cloud in the sky. Just checked the BBC website and fthe forecast for today is fantastic. A massive 24c. Has the summer arrived early for us all. Not too sure about that - but hey it is a Saturday and the sun is shining and it is blumming hot. Well there is only 1 thing for it - get in the car and drive down to Studland. Cant wait!

With a little bit if luck we can be there for mid-day ... it is a little late to be seeting off but hopefully the traffic wil lnot be too bad and getting over to Bournemouth will be a doddle. Must remember to pack the sun tan lotion as it really is going to be very very hot today.

Naturist Beaches In The UK : Newborough Warren - Malltraeth Bay - Anglesey

Described as having "breathtaking landscape and unspoilt sands" and " superb views of Snowdonia and the Lleyn Peninsular" this is one of several beautiful beaches along this part of the coast. Newborough Warren is also a nature reserve. The beach itself is of fine, golden sand, backed by dunes. On-shore winds from the Irish Sea can be a problem at times. It is said that most naturists gather in the area to the south of the car park - midway between Llanddwyn Island and Abermenai Point:

"At high season - textiles do walk along here sometimes - just be sensible and don't be obvious. If you see the warden coming along the beach in his 4x4 - cover up - he is known to get just a tad irate! This area does have a regular gay group - but as a woman I feel safer amongst them than amongst "straight" people! Waters here are sheltered, and quite warm as the tide goes out, with shallow pools that you can wallow in. Views are unbelievably fantastic - especially on a sunny evening."

Getting There

OS Map Ref: SH 387 640

From the Menai Bridge on the A5, take the A4080 south to the village of Newborough (Niwbwrch). From there, a road - signposted "To the Beach / Traeth" - leads south to a car park on the coast - approx. 2 miles. This Forestry Commission road is subject to a toll ( £2.00 in 1999 - effectively includes parking charge).

Walk from the car park on to the beach and turn right (heading North in the direction of Llandwyn Island) towards the rocky promontory at Llanddwyn Island. Beyond this lies Malltraeth Bay and an area used by naturists - "a beautiful but plain, exposed and windy beach with open water." The walk from the car park is two to three miles in total.

Alternatively, turn left from the car park (heading south) and walk until the beach curves left a little at some high sand dunes. From here, the crowded part of the beach is more or less out of sight. There is room to sit amongst the edge of the dunes
