Naturist Beaches In The UK : Morfa Dyffryn in Gwynedd Wales

Morfa Dyffryn in Gwynedd, Wales, on the west coast of Wales, in Snowdonia National Park was made an official naturist beach in the 21st century but it has been a nude beach by custom since the 1930s. The beach, between Barmouth and Harlech, is popular with naturist bathers from all over Britain for its unspoiled expanse of coast and its clean but coldwater. This is a very large, flat, sandy beach backed by dunes that are part of the national park nature reserve. Nearly a mile is devoted to nude bathing. Although popular with nudists from all over the world, the size of this beach means visitors can find plenty of space and privacy.

Morfa Dyffryn Nude Beach Essentials

Facilities: The beach as no facilities though there are toilets near the parking at the southern approach to the nude beach.

Warnings: The water here achieves the highest European standards for bathing, but it can be very cold. And, even in warm weather, cold breezes are possible so it's advisable to bring along a wind break of some kind.

Getting there From the south, leave the A 470 at Llanelltyd to join the A496 coast road. After the village of Tal-y-bont look for a sign that says Traeth - the Welsh word for beach - and follow a lane to a car park near the beach. Take the boardwalk through the dunes. The nude beach is signposted. It is also possible to walk, about two miles, from Dyffryn Ardudwy station on the Welsh coastal rail line from Barmouth.

Hmmm- this sounds just a little bit too chilly for me ... :O)

Naturist Beaches In Scotland : Kinshaldy Beach

Kinshaldy Beach - Fife. Kinshaldy Beachfor naturists is located at the northern tip of Scotland's Fife peninsula, in an area known as Tentsmuir Forest. The beach consists of "three miles of golden sand" backed by sand dunes. At low tide the beach is often a mile wide with "ample scope for nude sun and sea bathing". Behind the dunes there is a wild life conservation site, please respect the signs and keep out!

There are no facilities on the beach per se, so please take any litter home with you. A one pound entry fee to the Tentsmuir forest car park pays for the maintenance of the car park toilets.

Getting There

From Edinburgh:
Cross the Forth road bridge and continue north on the M90, leaving the motorway at Junction 8. Take the A92 through Cupar toward St. Andrews. Continue on this road until you reach the roundabout at Guardbridge. Take the A919 Leuchars road (left), past the turning for R.A.F. Leuchars and continue straight ahead. Upon Entering Leuchars, there is a small roundabout, with a sign for Kinshaldy Beach pointing to the right.. Simply follow the signs! The Tentsmuir Forest car park is 4 miles or so from here.. .

From Dundee:
Cross the Tay Road Bridge and follow the A92 southwards for about two miles before joining the A92 for Leuchars. On reaching the roundabout in Leuchars, follow the directions given above to the Tentsmuir Forest car park.

Follow the path from the Forestry Commission car park which leads on to the (textile) beach. Once on the beach, turn right and head south , passing a blue and yellow cylinder with a number 4 on it. (July 2001 - the blue and yellow buoy is reported to be "now quite tatty and faded.. more like a plastic oil drum filled with sand). The (unofficial) naturist section is a short way beyond. Naturist use has also been reported to the left (north) of the access point.

Naturist Beaches In Ireland : Clonakilty Bay - Munster

There are a number of quiet and secluded coves on the eastern and western sides of Clonakilty Bay which are very suitable for naturism. DUNOWEN also called DUNEEN ends at a rocky cliff, so there are very few passers by. Further out are DUNNY COVE and SANDS COVE. Further west towards Glandore lies the rocky PRISON COVE. On the eastern side there is a suitable cove near the village of RING.

Turn right over the bridge in the village and follow the road along the coast with Inchadoney island across the channel on the right. After a while the road turns inland and uphill. Half way up this hill is a narrow lane on your right which leads almost to a sheltered rocky cove. Park and take the footpath leading around to the left and down.

Further along this hilly road is a sign for SIMON'S COVE which is along the headland to South Ring where a small lane leads to the sea. The Cove is protected by a reef but can be thick with stringy seaweed. The shores of Roaring Water Bay past Lough Hyne, which is past Skibereen, and the Beara peninsula have many deserted beaches.

Modern History Of Naturism In France

In the years 1950, France counted less than 5 naturist centers and camp-site. In 2006, they are more than 50 of all sizes, from the small family center accomodating a few tens of people to the great centers of edge of sea which receive several thousands of people as in the Cape d'Agde. The French Federation of naturism (FFN) gathers 150 clubs with the last census of April 2006.

The naturist presence strongest is on the Aquitanian littoral: currently, there is on the Côte d’ArgentThe naturist presence strongest is on the Aquitanian littoral: currently, there is on the Money Coast as many naturist bathers bathers in shirts. First, and the vastest naturist centers are on this part of the Atlantique coast: Montalivet (common of Vendays-Montalivet), Euronat (commune of Grayan-and-l'Hôpital), Arnaoutchot (commune of Vielle-Saint-Girons), the Jenny (common of Porge).

The littoral of Languedoc-Roussillon knows also a strong naturist presence, in particular around Port Leucate (Aude) and Cape d'Agde (Herault).

No the naturist center on the Côte d’Azur, where natural landscape s'est rarefied under the concrete, but there are some small centers in l'arrière-country (Puget-Théniers) and of vaster on the coasts of Corsica. There are still some naturist beaches, in particular in the Cape Taillat (commune of Ramatuelle, in the Var), thanks to the Academy of the littoral which saved this sector. It should be noted that the Marseilles creeks are attended by the naturists since 1929.

The famous one and splendid Île du Levant has a naturist village, Héliopolis, opened with all the public ones. In Héliopolis, the edge of the sea must imperatively remain free and accessible to all, no privatization of the littoral band is accepted. In XXI century, this naturist principle and ecologist remain always in force there, contrasting with the invading concrete of the littoral of the Côte d'Azur. The naturist joint owners d'Héliopolis have "cold" with their expenses a vast woodland, where any construction is prohibited, which constitutes a natural reserve open to the public.

Years 2000 see emerging the unauthorized practice of the naked hike. The simple one strolls in forest with more sporting excursions in mountainous or broken zones, it was to combine the feeling of wellbeing caused by nudity with discovered corners of nature. C'est thus a wild form of naturism which develops out of the authorized centers, even if those can be used as lodging place or starting point.

All very interesting stuff!!!

Head In A Spin

Hello there, just a quickto see if all you naturists out there had a great Easter break. It is a real shame that the weather was so really mixed. We did manage to see some sunshine yesterday here on the South Coast - but by then it was far to late to jump in the car and drive down to Studland. Which is a real shame as I am guessing it was lovely over there. Still that is the great British weather for you - at least it did not snow (well not yet anyway)!!

Back to work for me today as I am sure it is for a lot of you. Still it is a short week and only four days till the weekend. I still have a few appointments left for this week so if the rigours of the Easter break and half term have got your head in a spin - drop me a text.

See some of you very soon.

Naturist Beaches In The UK : Rhossili Bay - Gower Peninsula - South Wales

This is one of the most popular naturist beaches in Wales. Rhossili Bay is located on the western end of the Gower peninsula, west of Swansea in South Wales. Rhossili beach has 3 miles or so of sand and, while the southern end gets very busy, naturists use the northern part. The Gower my be reached from the eastbound M4 via Swansea and the A4118 . For Rhosilli, turn right on to the B4247 just beyond Knelston. Whitford Burrows are located to the north and you should aim to get to Llanmadoc - via the A411 / B4271 or alternatively by way of the B4295 from Gowerton.

Once at Llanmadoc, park and walk along a track leading in a NW direction to the coast. Follow the path past 'Cwm Ivy Farm' downhill and just before you reach the beach turn right in front of a wooded area and follow the path which takes you past a cottage and parallel to the beach. After about 20 minutes walk, a path turns left down to the sea - reaching the beach by way of the dunes.

Alternatively, head towards the village of Llangennith and from there drive north-west towards Broughton Burrows and Llangennith Burrows. Take the public footpath through the dunes to the beach and then turn left (i.e. south) to find a secluded spot.

The area used by naturists is at northern end of the bay the area of dunes about 700 yards south of Spaniard Rock and Burry Holms Island.

What Is Naturism ?

Ask 50 people and you get 50 different answers. Whilst there is no official definition, it could be said: "Naturism is a way of life in harmony with nature, expressed by communal nudity with the aim of furthering the respect of oneself, of others and that of the environment." Others describe naturism as "a sensible approach to wearing clothes".

Naturists come in all shapes and sizes and of all ages – from the newly-born to those over 80. Many of us are interested in sports or outdoor living but others prefer just to relax. We are labourers, managers, clerks, civil servants, artists, farmers, doctors, etc.: we represent all walks of life. By undressing, you strip yourself of any false attitudes and of any outward signs of your social position in daily life. Without clothes, the employee is on the same level as the boss, and for many this turns out to be one of the most beneficial elements of Naturism.

Naturists are also more relaxed about the human body. We are more aware than others that human beings are born with soft skin which wrinkles later in life, that some are fat, others thin, some are tall, others short; having been struck by illness or accident, some remain scarred for life – we are simply men and women. Naturists don’t worry about how they are made – they prefer to let their true personality radiate.

Naturist Beaches In The UK : Holkham Beach

At low tide the beach is a long wide expanse of golden sand, and at high tide the beach gets well washed. The beach is patrolled by English Nature wardens who deter undesirables but apart from a friendly "Hello" leave the genuine naturists alone.

The beach is on a very exposed coast, since the next land north is the Arctic circle so do try to carry that wind breaker - the car is a two mile round trip walk if you find you have left anything behind. Even paradise has its problems.

On the A149 coast road at Holkham Hall turn off and park on Lady Ann Road, paying a fee to the Holkham estate. Here you are faced with a choice either head towards the beach and turn left and walk for about a mile along the sand or walk through the woods.

On a hot sunny day this can be the best decision, the only bad news is that you must be dressed but it is a great walk all the same, and the beach is well worth any effort.

Happy Easter To All My Customers

Hello there, just a quick note to wish all my customers a very happy Easter. What a shame the weather is so dreadful today here on the south coast. There is no real chance of getting to a naturist beach today and enjoying any sunshine. Still we have until Monday and who knows ~ stranger things have happened.

I am back at work on Tuesday and I do not have too many appointments left for next week. So if the half term really is getting you down and you want a massage please book sooner rather than later.

Just drop me a text.

Hope to see some of you real soon.

Naturist Beaches In The UK : Brighton East Beach

This has to be one of the UK's most famous official naturist beaches and indeed Britain's most accessible naturist beach. It is great because it is well within walking distance of central Brighton.

The usual facilities are within easy reach of the beach because of it central location but be careful as the beach shelves steeply and is of made up of pebbles.

The beach is on the main beach area, and is easily found. It is between Peter Pan's Playground and the Marina, Both Duke's (Lido) Beach and the Palace Pier are to its west side. Buses 7, 47 A, 52A, 57, 71 2, 726 link the Marine Parade to the station and Volk's Electric Railway runs along the promenade during the summer and has stations at the Aquarium, Banjo Groyne and the Marina.

I really like this beach and its location really is second to none.

Naturist Beaches In The UK : Budleigh Salterton (West End)

Probably the most public naturist beach in Devon and certainly one of the easiest to reach. Backed by red sandstone cliffs, it is a beautiful setting. A very popular naturist beach, so if you want to avoid the crowds, walk further down the beach. The beach consists of large pebbles which bank steeply into the sea. These are not easy to walk on and uncomfortable, so good footwear and maybe some form of cushioning/air bed to lay on is a good idea.

Very small pockets of sand can appear at low tide. Due to the redness of the cliffs and sand under the pebbles, the water is usually not as clear as Slapton beach further south in Devon.

Mostly elderly visitors out of season, but in July and August there can be a real mixture of ages - families, singles, couples.

Parking in Budleigh can be difficult during peak season, so arrive early if you can. Bear in mind that the naturist beach is to the right as you are looking out to sea, so you may want to try and park at the western end of town.

As the cliffs start there is a beach cafe (ideal for refreshments) then about 300m along the beach there is an official sign saying clothing optional from this point. In reality the naturists start some way before this sign, maybe about 150-200m from the cafe. There have been some problems with the local authorities over this, however naturists remain defiant and the police did receive quite a grilling over their 'interference'. Though to avoid potential problems it is advisable not to be nude until after the official sign.

The nice thing about this beach is just how easy it is to get to ... lets hope we just getsome sunshine this summer - Julie Allure massage

Naturist Beaches In The UK : Studland Dorset

Studland beach is located on the north-eastern tip of the part of Dorset known as the 'Isle of Purbeck', separated from Bournemouth by the entrance to Poole harbour. Easily the best-known naturist beach in the UK, it has also been voted the sixth-best beach in Britain.

The estate which owns the beach and surrounding heathland nature reserve was privately owned but has now passed into the hands of the National Trust . Studland is, for most of its length, a traditional textile beach. However, naturists have traditionally used the northernmost part, together with the nearby dunes. In recent years there has been some friction between some naturists and the NT because the latter has placed restrictions on the area used by naturists. On the positive side, nude use of the part of the beach is now "offically" sanctioned by the Trust.

There are two main ways of getting to Studland by car:
From the Purbeck (west) direction take the A351 from Wareham, turning left on to the B351 for Studland before reaching Corfe Castle. In Studland drive through the village and follow signs to the Studland Beach car park. Now walk north along the beach or tracks in the dunes until you reach the nude section which is marked by signposts on the beach and in the dunes.

From the Bournemouth (east) direction, a ferry runs from Sandbanks across the entrance to Poole harbour to the northern tip of Studland Heath. The distance is short, but at peak times there can be a long queue for the ferry. Shortly beyond the ferry there is an NT paying car park From here you walk east and then south along the beach past Shell Bay. Many visitors appear to park along the verge of Ferry Road - if you do, please take care not to obstruct the road. Alternatively, walk along the road to "Fire Point 6" and then through the nature reserve to the beach.

This really is one of the most beautiful beaches in the UK.

Who Are Naturists?

Anyone can be a naturist. Your background, age, shape, race, creed and colour are irrelevant when it comes to enjoying the freedom of naturism, which is why it attracts people from all walks of life.

Naturists practise social nudity, aimed at encouraging self respect, respect for others and the environment. We only enjoy clothes-free activities in the right environment, among like-minded naturists, when it is warm enough.

Naturism In The News : Society

As reported in the UK National press recently.

A RELAXED attitude to nudity could REDUCE the number of teen pregnancies, nudists said today.

British Naturism said the prudish attitude of Brits could be fuelling the rise in the number of teen mums.

Britain has the highest teenage pregnancy rate in Europe. Countries not so embarrassed about being seen in the buff have lower rates of school-age parents, said the group.

“Anyone who advocates prudery should be required to stand in front of a group of pregnant teenagers and explain why it is that, in countries such as Denmark or the Netherlands, most of them would not be pregnant,” the group argues.

The organisation also said that Brits treat breastfeeding in public as "dirty and shameful", and get embarrassed at the sight of a mum nursing her baby. They even drew parallels between our attitudes towards the body and the number of eating disorders.

Andrew Welch, commercial manager of British Naturism, said: "Governments, authority figures and social and community leaders should accept that the human body is not something to be ashamed of or embarrassed about, and that being more open about it would benefit society.

My thoughts on the the above are- "It is a bit of a sensationalist headline BUT the truth is that the underlining problem is really education and awareness"

Swedish Massage - The Origins

Massage as we know it today started to emerge in the 18th century, and is often referred to as Swedish massage as much of it comes from the work of Per Henrik Ling (1776-1839).

Ling completed some of his study in China, and as a result developed massage techniques he called effleurage, petrissage, and tapotement (aka percussion).

The Beginings Of Massage

Massage may be the oldest and simplest form of medical care. Egyptian tomb paintings show people being massaged. In Eastern cultures, massage has been practiced continually since ancient times. A Chinese book from 2,700 B.C., The Yellow Emperor's Classic of Internal Medicine, recommends 'breathing exercises, massage of skin and flesh, and exercises of hands and feet" as the appropriate treatment for -complete paralysis, chills, and fever."

It was one of the principal method of relieving pain for Greek and Roman physicians. Julius Caesar was said to have been given a daily massage to treat neuralgia. "

The Physician Must Be Experienced In Many Things," wrote Hippocrates, the father of Western medicine, in the 5th century B. C., "but assuredly in rubbing.. . for rubbing can bind a joint that is too loose, and loosen a joint that is too rigid."

Naturism In The News : UK - Couple Walk For Charity

A naturist couple have begun a naked 220-mile walk from London to Birmingham for charity.

Mark Stephenson and Fiona Lincoln embarked on their naked expedition from Greenwich on Sunday. They plan to complete their journey by Friday to attend the Ordnance Survey Outdoor Show in Birmingham.

As they pass Tower Bridge, Houses of Parliament, Windsor Castle and Oxfordshire, the pair hope to raise awareness for the Clothes For A Cause appeal.

Stephenson and Lincoln, who are from Strood in Kent, say they plan to walk the entire distance in only hiking boots, socks and a rucksack.

Stephenson said: “As naturists we are completely comfortable in our own skin and will only cover up in adverse weather conditions, or if we are asked to do so when passing through populated sections of the hike.”

Good luck to them - I hope their walk to trouble free and they raise some cash and awareness.

Frieder Haferkorn, the entrepreneur behind the venture, says he wants to turn a conventional hotel into a haven for naturists.

Meanwhile two villages in the Harz mountain region are also reportedly looking into designating some of their walking paths in the local forests as nudist routes.
